Uppuveli Beach Trincomalee
Trincomalee, popularly referred to as “Trinco”, is home to an uninterrupted stretch of beautiful beach that runs along the northern stretch of Trinco for nearly 30 kilometres, starting from Uppuveli beach which is close to Dutch bay at the natural harbour; stretching towards Nilaveli beach where ferries and boats leave for Pigeon Island, the snorkelling hotpot of the east; ending with Kuchchaveli beach that comprises absolute calm and tranquillity with not a fishing boat in sight and also well known for the stunning resort of Jungle beach . Along this expanse, there are unspoilt white sandy beaches with shallow waters making it safe for swimming and the best time to visit the beaches are from February to April. The Red Rock Bay near Nilaveli is an estuary with some unique pink boulders. Striking corals and exotic tropical marine life at Pigeon Island which was named after the rock pigeons that live there, make for thrilling diving and snorkelling experiences. There are beautiful hotels and resorts that line the shores of the beaches. Whilst you stay at any of these beaches, you can visit main popular attractions of this sea port city such as the Trincomalee harbour which is one of the finest natural harbours in the world and Fort Frederick – where history and legend live with the revered Hindu temple of Koneswaram Kovil sitting upon a stunning cliff on top of Swami Rock facing the Indian Ocean.
